「我是臺灣人，你是中國人」──話先講清楚，再來交朋友

挑戰大概可以分兩種層次：第一層是每次在填表格時隱約的心驚，我總是害怕在國籍欄裡會選不到 Taiwan。另一種是人際互動，例如某中國同學堅持我只要有機會指稱到他們，一律得為中國大陸。只要我在臉書上說「中國」而非「中國大陸」或「大陸」，即使是非常軟性的議題，他也會不厭其煩地來信「糾正」。其實，第一次遇到這種狀況時，我並沒有搞懂，只覺得這有甚麼，畢竟在臺灣，常常也是大陸來大陸去地講。

就算聽過，也還停留在 Made in Taiwan 的階段，偶爾碰到認識台灣、去過台灣，或是對台海關係稍有了解的人，我就感動萬分，把想家的情感變成熱烈的談話。在那個時候，要遇到台灣同鄉不是一件容易的事，除非出國之前已經認識，或是有共同的友人介紹，否則要在茫茫人海中，找到為數不多的台灣留學生，並且還要投契到能夠交朋友，簡直是大海撈針。
